21st August 2003 Windsurfing: Bala Wind Direction: sw Wind Stength: Force 5 Surf / Sea State: waves Air Temperature: 20 Sea Temperature: 19 Weather: Cloudy Max Speed: Distance Covered: Finally the wind came back and with force. Took afternoon off work as I didn’t want to miss this. Arrived at Bala to see a host of white horses across the lake and about 6 others already out, including Radical Rob. Initially I rigged the 5.5 and Clive his 6.0 but after just one rip across I got to the boat club and wondered how I was going to get back. Eventually plucked up the courage and just about made it back with arms given a good workout. With the wind freshening I put the 4.2 on and went out again for about an hour, some mad runs across big chop and mini jumps, not all intentional. Clive stayed near the town beach on his 6.0, massively overpowered. After a short break Radical Rob was spotted over towards the boat Club, stranded on the side after going out on his 6.5. I thought that I would have one last run and set out at warp speed, wishing to scrub some speed I headed up into wind and straight into a ramp that lifted me skywards. Only to come crashing down on the sail, back to the menders for me again. Got back in OK, packed up to go to the pub and wishing that I hadn’t gone for that last run. Oh well you have to be in it to win it. On leaving Radical Rob was still stranded, bet he wished he had taken his flask with him now. |
